MID8214 Flood Mitigation and Management

This course will consist of the following modules: Introduction to floods (National, regional, and global perspective), Flood risk assessments, flood forecasting, flood routing, flood mitigation strategies, learning applications (flood disaster modelling).

Course objectives

• To be able to understand the concept of flood mitigation and management, and to apply these concepts in the management of floods

Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course the students will be able to:

• Know the concepts of floods, their types, risk assessments, flood forecasting, and mitigation strategies.
• Prepare flood disaster models with associated analyses by the end of the course
• Develop and effect strategies for addressing negative challenges following disasters
