Course Unit Description

This course introduces students to and teaches them the concepts of environmental and occupational health. It covers environmental and occupational hazards and the health risks associated with these hazards and explain how these risks can be mitigated to minimize or eliminate harm to heath. Hazards and risks posed by population explosion, adverse weather and bio-terrorism will also be covered in this course. 
 
Course General Objectives 
By the end of the course students should be able to;  

  • Explain the broad components of the environment (open and built environment) 
  • Describe health hazards in both the open and built environments  
  • Describe the health risks associated with the health hazards recognized and how these risks can be mitigated
