MED4203: Surgical Specials

This course introduces the students to clinical clerkship in specialized areas like Ear Nose and Throat, and Ophthalmology.  Students will spend most of the time on the wards and theatre participating in patient care. Emphasis will be on mastering clinical skills particularly history taking, examining patients, investigation of patients, interpretation of laboratory results and essential surgical procedures, setting a patient management plan and communication to the patient including counseling.  
 
Course objectives 

• To develop skills in ophthalmologic and otorhinolaryngology assessment 
• To develop skills in carrying out essential procedures in ophthalmologic and 
• otorhinolarynealogy  
• To explain the principles of managing surgical emergencies
