Course Unit Description

This course acts as an introduction to pathology. It summarizes the causes and mechanisms of disease development. It provides the foundation for understanding clinical sciences and community practice.   
 
Course objectives 
By the end of the course students should be able to; 

  • Describe the basic concepts and principles of pathology. 
  • Describe and explain inflammation and clinical pharmacology of anti-inflammatory agents. 
  • Describe the pathology of common infectious and communicable diseases and the clinical pharmacology of drugs used. 
  • Explain abnormal accumulations and pigmentation in the body. 
  • Describe the pathogenesis of immune mediated body disorders.  vi. Explain the pathology related to alteration in growth control, toxic injury, neoplasia and the clinical pharmacology of anti-neoplastic agents. 
  • Describe and explain the pathology and epidemiology of common genetic disorders.
