Course Unit Description

This course covers the embryological development, gross anatomy, physiology and biochemistry of the gastrointestinal system. It also covers important human macronutrients. It provides the foundation for understanding nutrition, metabolic and congenital abnormalities. 
 
Course Objectives 
By the end of this course, students should be able to; 

  • Describe the anatomy and function of the GIT  
  • Describe the metabolism of biomolecules in the cell 
  • Explain the importance of Nutrition 
  • Describe the role of the relevant laboratory investigations 
  • State the major sources of nutrients, their requirements and roles for optimal maintenance.
