Course Unit Description
Success in the world of work and business depends to a large extent on the ability to communicate. Corporate communication today has become a tool of business competitiveness, through which enterprises advance to appeal and reach out to their clientele and build corporate image. This course will provide students with practice in occupational writing, both correspondence and reports. The first half of the course deals with correspondence, with particular emphasis on employment letters, customer relations and sales messages. The remaining units focus on report preparation, with practice in writing descriptions, instructions, progress reports and proposals. The course is intended to help students to students to learn to compose various communication-related correspondence expected of business and industry. Students may also address ethical concerns as they relate to business communication.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:
- Write and reply to enquiries and requests;
- Write a resume and application letter and prepare for job interviews;
- Write letters that create good will to customers and clients;
- Apply persuasive techniques to sales messages;
- Gather and organize information for a report;
- Prepare clear and complete instructions, descriptions and periodic reports;
- Prepare an analytical report or a proposal; and
- Prepare letters and reports that meet professional standards of format, presentation and style.
