Course Unit Description

Most adults today spend most of their professional lives in organisations. Organisations shape our identities and define our place in the society. They are complex social formations
with structures, systems and processes that affect human relations and performance.; and hence the need to understand them. This course introduces to students with basic theories, concepts, and current issues concerning organizational structures, operational systems and behaviour; and how these may affect organisational effectiveness. 

Course Objectives
The main objectives of this course are to enable the students to: 

  • Understand key concepts and theories of organisational behaviour
  • Understand key concepts and theories relating to organisational structure, design and processes
  • Understand how these concepts and theories relate to the successful management of organisations

Learning outcomes
By the end of this course students should be able to:

  • Explain the practice and theory of organisations with some of its complexities
  • Describe the relevance of organisation goals, various designs and structures available for different organisational contexts, organisation culture, and processes like decision-making, communication and politics
  • Describe the central role that organisational systems have in shaping the attitudes and behaviours of individuals and groups in the workplace 
  • Illustrate on the cutting-edge problems and emerging organisation issues & relevant designs 
  • Build a perspective on organisation design & behaviour including the recent advancements and link them up with various relevant theoretical streams
