Course Unit Description

A dissertation involves rigorous research undertaking with application of all aspects of conventional scientific methodology. It should involve a combined total of 600 hours (equivalent to 16 weeks workload and 10 Credit Units). It will be subjected to external examination and defense / Viva voce arrangement. The dissertation is an independent study done by the student under the supervision of a departmental supervisor. This will be governed by the following regulations: 

  • Each student shall be allocated two supervisors, with whom he/she should have regular contacts during the period of research. 
  • The proposals, duly signed by both student and the supervisors should be submitted to the Graduate Studies Coordinator of the faculty in the first semester of the second academic year. 
  • Students shall undertake applied research in the last semester of the program and submit, in partial fulfilment of the master’s degree requirements, a dissertation of approximately 20000 words at the end of year 2, semester II.
  • Every dissertation submitted shall be examined by at least two specialists approved by the Directorate of Graduate Studies Research and Innovation (DGSRI) through the recommendations of relevant faculty board. At least one of the examiners must be external to the University. The other one must be the supervisor(s) of the candidate or a competent member of Busitema University.
  • Other rules that exist in Busitema university higher study regulation, regarding dissertations will be followed.
