Course Unit Description

The course focuses on management of fish health in cultured environments and wild fishery. To some extent, a range of infectious diseases are covered including viral, bacterial, and parasitic agents that infect wild and cultured fish species. The course emphasizes the principles of fish health, fish biosecurity, maintenance, recognition, diagnosis, and control of infectious fish diseases. Aspects of nutritional related fish diseases are also covered.

Learning objective(s)
By the end of the course, learners will be able to;

  • Learn about identifying and diagnosing fish diseases and parasites
  • Acquire skills in designing appropriate control measures for fish diseases and parasites
  • Acquire knowledge on how to identify predators and design control measures.

Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, learners should demonstrate capacity to:

  • Identify and diagnose fish diseases and parasites 
  • Recommend appropriate control and/ curative measures. 
  • Identify different types of predators and their control methods
