FWR1105 Limnology
Course Unit Title
FWR1105 Limnology
Course Unit Description
This course covers inland aquatic ecosystems with a main focus on lakes (both freshwater and saline), rivers and streams from the ecological or environmental science point of view. It includes aspects of biological, chemical, physical, and geological characteristics and functions of inland waters.
Course learning objective(s)
By the end of the course, students will be able to;
- Acquire the basic knowledge about the myriad of factors that influence and control inland natural waterways.
- Describe the biogeochemical cycles in fresh water ecosystems
- Plan and carryout basic field sampling and analyses of freshwater physico-chemical and biological components
Course learning outcome(s)
At the end of this course, the learners should be able to:
- Examine and evaluate abiotic and biotic conditions in inland aquatic systems,
- Account for structure and dynamics in biogeochemical cycles and organism communities in freshwater ecosystems,
- Conduct the basic field sampling and analyses of freshwater physico-chemical and biological components
