FNE 1101: Biomathematics

The course unit enables students to acquire knowledge and skills of the basic principles of mathematics relevant to fisheries as a natural resource.  The course introduces students to mathematical laws required in decision making for optimal fisheries exploitation. The course content includes but not limited to algebra, functions, Matrices and Calculus; focusing on their applications in natural resources. 

Course objectives

By the end of this course unit, students will be able to; 

• Understand the basic mathematical principles applicable to fisheries as a natural resource.
• Creatively translate problems in fisheries natural resources into mathematical form to obtain solutions.
• Reason critically in physical and environmental sciences.
• Interpret mathematical relationships between inter-dependent variables. 
• Interpret different shapes of graphs obtained through research studies.
