Course Unit Description

This course is designed to help educational leaders to advance in principles of teaching and learning, creating enabling learning environments and to engage in curriculum planning at different levels of education. The course provides an integral approach to managing learning environments, dealing with students’ behaviors and application of modern pedagogical practices.
Rationale
To be a good education leader or administrator, one need to be well acquainted with the all the principles, ethics, practices and new innovations in teaching and learning. This course provides modern pedagogical practices in teaching and learning to education leaders and managers. It’s intended to help them keep with pace of innovation in teaching and leadership. Successful candidates will integrate such practices into their planning strategies for improvement of education output

Course objectives
This course will lead students to be able to:

  • Understand the purpose of teaching and learning,  as such they will provide learning environment that promote achievement of educational goals
  • Understand the implication of teaching approaches, multiple intelligent, disability and environment on teaching 
  • Understand the social curriculum of the school and be able to state the criteria for creating student centered and child caring environment in a school.
  • Explain the different theories of learning and their implication the role of a teacher 
  • Develop a caring attitude towards all learners.
  • Analyze and interpret the all education curricula
  • Consider the implications of integrated curriculum on the  organization of school

Learning outcomes
Students who complete this course will be able to:

  • Explain their roles in creating a child centered curriculum and learning activities
  • Make comparison between various theories of learning and teaching activities
  • Explain and put in practice the various aspects of the social curriculum of the school
  • Be good advisers of lesson planning, curriculum assessments and implementation in a school
  • Understand how the various methods of teaching influence lesson design
  • Supervise and evaluate the teaching of staff in a school and explain how the process of evaluation affects thinking of both teachers and students
