Course Unit Description
The course provides postgraduate students with theoretical and practical knowledge and skills of qualitative research. It covers introduction to the research process and to qualitative research paradigm; qualitative research methodology including methods, research design, and data analysis; proposal and report writing
Course objectives
The aim of the course is to
- equip students with an understanding of the rationale for, and appropriate use of qualitative research methods in educational research
- Build confidence in graduate students in their planning and conduct of research by giving them an insight, understanding and skills to engage in Qualitative research.
Course Learning Outcome
After completion of this course, students are expected to
- Demonstrate knowledge of the different approaches to qualitative research
- Describe the philosophical issues to education research
- Be able able to review literature for their respective studies
- Explain the research designs amenable to qualitative research
- Demonstrate knowledge of qualitative data analysis
