DHB1203 Acids, Bases and Salts
Course Unit Title
DHB1203 Acids, Bases and Salts
Course Unit Description
This unit will cover content on acids, bases and salts. Besides acids, bases and salts available in our laboratory, emphasis will be put on getting materials with similar properties from the local surrounding (improvisation). The interrelatedness among these 3 categories of substances will also be emphasized, including their application in real daily life.
Course Objectives
By the end of this unit, students should be able to:
- Define acid, base, salt.
- Distinguish between acid, base and salts.
- Provide local source for each of them.
- Describe the chemical reactions of acids, bases and salts with specific reagents.
- Carry out acid-base titrations and associated calculations and convert or predict.
- Solve problems involving PH and POH of acids and bases and related calculations.
