DMB2102 History and Literature in African and Western Music

Every art has a beginning and a development process or evolution.  To understand the present better we need to know something about the past.  The past has a lot in store for us.  From the above point of view, we get current art and its nature or characteristics:  The kick off of the development of music started in Italy and hence the notation and the music language of today.  For African music, a similar thing happened and African music did not start today.  We shall look at when, where, how and by whom music developed to what we know now.

• Simplifies the understanding of the different aspects of music of today to primary school pupils.
