DAP2205 Rural Sociology and Community Outreach
Course Unit Description
The course introduces the students to farmer communities and gives the opportunity to practice the theory of community extension while passing on knowledge and skills they have acquired to farmers. It also equips the student with social aspects in relation to the animal production systems in Uganda.
Course Objectives
- To Equip students with practical community extension skill and help them share the knowledge and skill they have acquired with farmers
- To Provide students with farmer community experience before they graduate
- To equip students with skills and knowledge of rural sociology in relation to animal production systems.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, learners should be able to:
- Appropriately pass information to farmers and help them improve their livelihoods.
- Explain the social relationships within the agricultural population
- Provide solutions to the social problems of people living in the countryside, using elements from other sciences too.
- Describe the social changes in the agricultural community, which are brought about by urbanization, industries and the introduction of modern agricultural technology to agriculture.
- Design and implement intervention strategy among farmer communities
