Course Unit Description

This course equips students with knowledge and skills in commercial production of poultry species.

Course Objectives

  • To train students in broiler and layer chicken production
  • To train students in improvement of indigenous chicken production
  • To train students in turkey production

Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, learners should be able to:

  • care for poultry in artificial brooding
  • care for and produce broiler chickens
  • care for layer chickens and produce table eggs
  • produce hatching eggs and incubate them naturally and artificially
  • care for breeding chickens
  • identify some common diseases of poultry and administer prescribed treatments
  • care for turkeys, geese, and quail
  • improve the productivity of indigenous backyard poultry
