Course Unit Description
This course introduces the student to the available indigenous natural medicinal plants that are potentially used to manage animal ailments as well as for the development of the drug industry. The course also introduces students to the basic principles of toxicology as used in livestock production and management.
Course Objectives
At the end of the course, learners should be able to:
- To explain to students the concept of natural medicine as used livestock disease management.
- To equip students with the practical processing techniques of natural plant medicine
- To make students understand the importance of natural medicinal plants.
- To equip students with knowledge of the various toxic substances found in the farm environment and ways of how to counter/treat cases of poisoning in animals

At the end of this course the student should be able to:
- Know the procedures for the extraction of natural plant medicine.
- Appreciate the national, regional and global importance of medicinal plants
- Process and classifying medicaments from natural plants
- Identify poisonous plants and compounds in the farm environment
