Course Unit Description

This course introduces livestock production as a business and explains the importance of economics in livestock production, meaning of demand and supply.

Course Objectives

  • To equip students with knowledge on the principles of agricultural economics and how they apply to livestock farming in order to make good/profitable/beneficial production decisions
  • To enable students know the role of agricultural marketing, marketing mix, the different marketing organizations.
  • To equip students with knowledge on resource mobilization in a production process and control/manage resources.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, learners should be able to:

  • Identify the types and sources of agricultural/farming data, Collect relevant data, Present collected data appropriately, explain the terms used in data analysis, Analyze and interpret agricultural data, apply the laws of supply and demand in making production decisions
