Course Unit Description

The course covers aspects of farm structures and the general farm lay-out. In addition, it explores the area of farm mechanization as a means of improving productivity and the general performance of the farm.  

Course Objectives

  • To expose students to the social, economic &environmental considerations of setting up and developing farms
  • To equip students with skills of establishing and developing farms
  • To understand the relevance of different farm structures with respect to agricultural production systems
  • To know the relevance and appreciate the various forms of Agricultural mechanization.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, learners should be able to:

  • Explain the social, economic &environmental considerations of setting up and developing farms
  • Outline the steps involved in the planning of the farm and small buildings.
  • Select the relevant materials required for construction of farm structures.
  • Describe the layout, space, sanitary and physiological requirements of the farm structures.
  • Explain agricultural mechanization principles and applications. 
  • Practice safe work skills
