DAP1102 Farm Practices
Course Unit Description
This Course is designed to give students a hands-on experience in day-to-day farm practices; and this is by giving them the opportunity to pragmatically participate in the various activities in the respective farm enterprises during the semester.
Course Objectives
- To know the different routine management practices and be in position to effectively implement them.
- To learn the various agricultural production methods and systems
- To identify and solve farm problems associated with the different farm enterprises.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, learners should be able to:
- Describe the general lay-out of the farm and its management structure.
- Explain the diverse nature of both crop and animal enterprises
- Undertake the different routine management practices with respect to the diverse enterprises
- suggest and implement ways to undertake environmentally sustainable agricultural enterprises
- Identify the various production systems with respect to the different enterprises.
- Design and implement a livestock husbandry project in his/her area of specialization
- Advise farmers on aspects of enterprise selection and general management
