Course Unit Description

This Course is designed to give students a hands-on experience in day-to-day farm practices; and this is by giving them the opportunity to pragmatically participate in the various activities in the respective farm enterprises during the semester.

Course Objectives

  • To know the different routine management practices and be in position to effectively implement them.
  • To learn the various agricultural production methods and systems
  • To identify and solve farm problems associated with the different farm enterprises.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, learners should be able to:

  • Describe the general lay-out of the farm and its management structure.
  • Explain the diverse nature of both crop and animal enterprises
  • Undertake the different routine management practices with respect to the diverse enterprises
  • suggest and implement ways to undertake environmentally sustainable agricultural enterprises
  • Identify the various production systems with respect to the different enterprises.
  • Design and implement a livestock husbandry project in his/her area of specialization 
  • Advise farmers on aspects of enterprise selection and general management
