This course introduces the student to the Piggery husbandry and its potential for economic empowerment

Course objective

  • To enable a student establish and manage piggery unit as well as market the pigs and their products

Learning out comes
At the end of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Identify major pig breeds, explain the merits and demerits of pig production. identify the various systems of production and management.
  • Choose appropriate systems of management and production, carryout and explain the basis of the various pig groups
  • Identify and use the various equipment for management, work out feed conversion rates for individual animals and how to produce fatteners
  • To be able to construct the various piggery housing and associated structures
