BST1103 Evolution of Uganda as A Nation State from 1894 to the present
Course Unit Description
This unit focuses on an examination of pre-colonial, colonial and post-colonial developments and issues in Uganda culminating into a sovereign state.
Course Objectives
By the end of the unit, student should be able to:
- Describe the structure of selected Ugandan Communities in the pre-colonial period
- Explain the relations between the different societies in the pre-colonial period
- Identify and discuss the factors for and effects of European Colonization of Uganda
- Trace the steps to independence in Uganda
- Gain a deeper understanding of the post-independence development in Uganda
- Explain the role of the military in the politics of the nation
- Describe Uganda’s place in international relations and diplomacy
Learning outcomes
By the end of this course unit the student will be able to:
- To enable student teachers, acquire knowledge about the evolution of Uganda as a nation, colonial experience, and the development / challenges throughout independence to present.
