Course Unit Description


This course entails studying games of low organization as a lead up to basic knowledge of the rules and coaching of gymnastics/basic movements, athletics lower primary besides and major games. 

 

Course objectives
By the end of the course, participants should be able to:
Games of Low Organisation  (GOLO)

  • Demonstrate theoretical knowledge and practical knowledge of GOLO
  • Select relevant and appropriate GOLO to be taught in primary schools
  • Acquire competence of playing, organizing and officiating gymnastics and kids athletics 

Kids Athletics

  • Develop a competency in the various movement and gymnastics skills
  • Explore synchronized movements with and without apparatus and prepare for various displays for beginners. 
  • Explore different safe support systems and plan for safe gymnastic skill development for various age groups and skill level.

Gymnastics

  • Develop a competency in the various movement and gymnastics skills
  • Explore synchronized movements with and without apparatus and prepare for various displays for beginners. 
  • Explore different safe support systems and plan for safe gymnastic skill development for various age groups and skill level. 

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course the student should be able to:
 

(GOLO)

  • Identify GOLO activities in primary schools
  • Demonstrate basic skills competences for major sport like gymnastics
  • Play and enjoy GOLO activities 

(Athletics for Lower Primary)

  • Rationalize the concept and principles of teaching athletics in lower primary
  • Describe, design suitable activities in athletics for teaching classes
  • Explain the various teaching points on the activities that make up athletics in upper primary
  • Train all primary school pupils in field and truck events that make up athletics

(Gymnastics)

  • Demonstrate various movement and gymnastics skills in sessions for beginners
  • Exhibit synchronized performance of basic movement and gymnastic skills with and without apparatus. 
  • Assess various displays for safety, skill and creativity.
