BLS2101 Translation Theory and Practice

This Course will cover Theories of Translation as based on various linguists; it investigates the history of translation. It explores the various assumptions underlying the notion of "good translation" and the potential conflict between a faithful rendition of verbal content and stylistic integrity. A section of the course will be devoted to ethical considerations in translation practice, including cultural awareness.

Course Objectives 
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:

• Explore the various assumptions underlying translation
• Acquaint students with the knowledge of the theories of translation and the factors that influence translation strategies and methods
• Expose the students to the historical and cultural differences in approaches to the task of translation.
• Provide students with an insight into the ethical considerations and skills governing translation practice.
