BIT2301 Industrial Attachment 1

Industrial training involves attaching a student to an Industry/organization/ company, school or at University for a period of ten (10) weeks. The goal is to help the student put into practice what he/she learned at the university and also to help the student acquire practical experience from the field by interacting and working with field experts. The institution should be reputable and have function or department of section in the field of IS, IT, CS, SW engineering or related fields. The student will be supervised by the field supervisor on a daily /weekly basis in the organization where s/he is attached and the supervisor wills visits the student at least twice during the ten-week period. Both supervisors will evaluate the student and student will be required to write a field report which will be assessed by the university supervisor.

Course Objectives
This course unit is meant to:

• Give the student an opportunity to put to practice the theoretical knowledge learned at the University
• Help the student get field experience from experts;
• Help the student identify new areas and also become acquainted with new Technology and systems which may not be at the institution where such a student is studying from;
• Help the student improve on practical skills in the area of Information system/IT at large;
• Help the student work in teams to execute projects and to demonstrate creativity and innovation
• Give the student opportunity to improve his/her communication skills, time management, self confidence, planning and scheduling of activities.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, the student should be able to:

• Identify the areas where theoretical knowledge learned at the university can be applied
• Use the field experience from the experts in improving his/her practical skills
• Identify new areas and also become acquainted with new technology and systems which may not be at the institution where such a student is studying from
• Demonstrate applicability of the theoretical knowledge to practice in the area of IS /IT at large
• Work individually and in teams to execute project and to demonstrate creativity and innovation
