Course Unit Description
This course will cover the definition of key terms: Hydrosphere, hydrobiology, Limnology, lotic, lentic and ephemeral habitats and give a brief description of other disciplines related and involved in the study of fresh water. Global water distribution: marine and fresh water, oceans, seas, lakes, rivers and wetlands. The global distribution and general issues of conservation concern of freshwater. The course will also cover climate change impacts on freshwater ecosystems.
Course objectives
By the end of this course, learners should be able to:
- Explain the basic ecological principles that are integral in freshwater biology.
- Examine the chemical, physical, and biological aspects of freshwater systems.
- Describe the incredible diversity and complexity in aquatic ecosystems
- Use different approaches to sampling freshwater systems
