AGR 3206: Research Project
Course Unit Description
In this course a learner chooses a research topic of relevance to the field of agriculture. With guidance of a supervisor, the learner develops a proposal, conducts research which should not last more than 8 weeks and produces a project report. The major aim is to encourage the development of the skills and positive attitudes to research. It is also hoped that the learners would then be able to apply research methods and writing techniques learnt to investigate phenomena and make scientific presentations.
Course objectives
By the end of this course, learners should be able to:
- Apply knowledge learned from Research methods and data management.
- Deepen their knowledge on issues that affect science and science education.
- Develop skills in proposal writing.
- Provide a rationale for selection of specific data collection strategies appropriate, research context, and “state of the art” regarding knowledge building in the relevant literature.
- Demonstrate appropriate use of selected data collection methods.
- Select and apply sampling methods that achieve an adequate representation of subjects to address the stated research questions and aims.
- Critique strengths and limitations of selected data collection tools and methods.
- Draw appropriate conclusions and recommendations, based on research findings and study conditions.
