Course Unit Description

This course exposes the student to the needs of animals and how they relate to behaviour and productivity. It covers animal handling, rights and legislation plus the ethical and legal responsibilities of the people who work with animals.

Course Objectives

  • To expose students to the needs of animals and how they relate to behaviour and productivity. 
  • To train students in humane and safe handling and restraint of animals. 
  • To introduce students to the rights of animals & attendant legislation. 

Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, learners should be able to:

  • Understand how animals behave and relate their needs to productivity
  • Humanely and safely handle and restrain animals 
  • Appreciate that animals, too, have rights which must be protected through legislation.
