Course Unit Description
This course involves learning about how the environment, atmosphere weather and climate and other resources affect the way of life and influence the social economic activities of people in the different parts of the World. It further studies the impacts of the way people live and their various activities on the different composites of the environment. This course also explores the theories, principles and practice of self-sustainable management and development. It considers a critical examination of individual habits of the different world environments and man’s response/ challenges to development.
Course Objectives
By the end of this unit, students should be able to:
- Explain the fundamentals of environment
- State the location and characteristics of each of the different environments;
- Identify the problems (challenges) and advantages of the different environments; and
- Analyses the prospects for development of the different environments. This is composed of four parts:
- Man and the Environment
- The Tropical Environment
- The Temperate Environment
- The Mountain/Polar Climates

By the end of the course unit participants will be able to:
- Examine the fundamentals of the different environments
- Analyze the prospects of the different environments
- Explain the characteristics of the different world environments.
