CUR2205 Teaching and Learning Mathematics
Course Unit Description
The course prepares teacher trainees in the teaching and of mathematics. It equips them with knowledge, skills and theories of teaching and learning and the rationale for teaching it. It aims at using participatory approach in the teaching and learning of mathematics.
Course Objectives
By the end of the course, students should be able to;
- Justify the rationale for teaching mathematics.
- Create a positive attitude in learners’ mathematics
- Use learning theories to make classroom decisions.
- Teach mathematics using a variety of methods that motivates learners.
- Analyze mathematics content to be taught in preparation for teaching.
Learning out comes
The course will enable;
- Graduate teachers who can apply different teaching methods to teach secondary school math effectively and meet the different learning styles of students.
- Graduate teachers to be able to prepare syllabi, schemes of work lesson plans and therefore effective participate in the math curriculum processes
