Course Unit Description
With massification of higher education, quality assurance has become more critical than ever before. This unit aims to expose students to the important frameworks and mechanisms of quality assurance and assessment in higher education.
Course objectives
The aim of this course is introduce candidates to quality assurance, assessment and control, particularly:
- The working of a quality assurance frame work
- Assess the higher education quality based on a given quality assurance criteria
- Uphold quality assurance guidelines in pursuit of higher education success
- Understand the motivation behind the institution of quality assurance principles
- Introduce student to principles, approaches and good practices of school inspection and supervision.
- Equip the students with skills for effective school supervision and inspection.
- Contextual the supervision and inspection theories in Uganda
- Examine the role of different stakeholders in education supervision and inspection
Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the module, participants should be able to:
- Analyze the different elements of quality assurance frameworks and mechanisms
- Examine the meaning of quality of higher education and its importance
- Explain the importance of the internal Quality Control in assessing academic performance
- Compare and contrast various international, regional and national quality assurance frameworks
- Explain the meaning of effective inspection and supervision of school programs
- Contextualize the supervision and inspection theory and literature in the Ugandan Situation
- Examine the role of the school principal as curriculum development and a supervisor for instruction
