Course Unit Description

The course is intended to introduce students to issues of managing the operations of an organization effectively and efficiently, while aiming at meeting the customer requirements which include; improved quality, minimal cost, better and service delivery and flexibility. The course will cover the general overview and evolution of operations management, location and layout decisions, project and quality management, capacity planning and strategies and operations management. 
 

Course Objectives
The course will enable students to:

  • Describe the general characteristics and challenges of operations management systems
  • Explain techniques used to select make best location and layout decisions
  • Describe techniques and strategies used in project and capacity management
  • Evaluate the concept of Total quality management and how it is applied in the day today operations systems

Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:

  • Describe the general process of business operations management
  • Make location and layout decisions
  • Describe various methods of project planning and management and quality management.
  • Carry out capacity and demand management strategies
  • Apply different methods of inventory management
