CHM1101 Basic Inorganic Chemistry
Course Unit Title
CHM1101 Basic Inorganic Chemistry
Course Unit Description
In this course, students are introduced to the modern interpretation of atomic structure and the periodic table, and bonding
Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the students should be able to:
- Predict chemical stability and reactivity after understanding the structure of the atom.
- Understand the fundamental concept needed to explain atomic and molecular structures in qualitative or semi quantitative terms.
- Explain and account for the geometry and shapes of molecules.
- Describe some useful qualitative approaches, including some of the opposing views of bonding.
- Develop a simple pictorial approach to describe bonding and develop symmetry arguments required for some of the more complex cases.
Expected outcomes
- Students will adequately gain knowledge of inorganic chemistry
- Improved subject content command and skills for teaching inorganic chemistry
