Course Unit Description

Introduction to development concepts like sustainable development. The structure of east African economies and the levels of development, East Africa physical and human environment. The resources, their utilization and development, disparities in development, poverty and measures to reduce poverty levels. Aids and development, role of NGOs, CBOs, government, private sector, foreign governments, multinational companies in development, environmental management.

Objectives
By the end of the course, the students should be able to:

  • Describe the global position of east Africa including the physiography
  • Discuss the structure endowment of east Africa
  • Describe the human geography, and man’s activities in east Africa
  • Examine the political, social and economic problems that hinder the development of east Africa

Expected learning outcomes

  • This course is expected to expose the learners to the environment of East Africa and identify the opportunities for development
