Course Unit Description

The course is about basic drafting techniques used to produce engineering drawings.  Conventional drafting and dimensioning practices as outlined by the National Occupational Skill Standards, ANSI, and ISO will be used to produce orthographic drawings, pictorial drawings, auxiliary views, and section drawings.  Technical drawings will be completed using freehand sketching techniques, conventional drawing tools, and CAD.
  
Course objectives
The objectives of the course are; 

  • To explore the engineering design process and use a graphic language for product design, technical illustration, assembly, patent, and structural drawings. 
  • To increase the understanding of drawing and the design process and techniques.
  • To acquaint the use of computers, calculators, and descriptive geometry and adhere to established standards to solve design problems.

Learning Outcomes
Upon Successful completion of this module, the student should be able to:

  • Understand and appreciate the importance of Engineering Graphics in Engineering
  • Understand the basic principles of Technical/Engineering Drawing
  • Understand the different steps in producing drawings according to BS 308
  • Familiarize with the different instruments that are available for linear, To select and use the appropriate measuring instrument according to a specific requirement (in terms of accuracy, etc.)
