SPONSORSHIPS
- We got Rugby Uniform from the Uganda Rugby Union on 12th August 2017. This encouraged students to start up a rugby team and we are now participating in the Eastern region rugby league.
- On 26th November 2017, we won a set of Netball Uniform and 1,000,000/= in the Injector plan Netball tournament organised by Uganda Healthy Marketing Group (UHMG) when we emerged 4th out of 12 institutions. UHMG wants to collaborate with us and we help promote their healthy programmes in Eastern Uganda.
CHALLENGES:
- Few teams were presented due to insufficient funds.
- IFMS financial management system which made release of our funds hard
WAY FORWARD / RECOMMENDATIONS
HAVE TWO FULL TIME ALL ROUND COACHES AT ALL CAMPUSES TO HELP IN DAILY TRAINING
- Offer sports scholarships to talented students
- There is need to revise the sports policy because the student leaders miss use the authority granted to them by the policy.
Regional Football League
The Games Union agreed that all campuses should register their football teams in their various districts to play FUFA 4th division football competitions. Busitema campus succeeded and is now playing the 2nd leg of the league in Busia district. The team is currently ranked 3rd out of 10 clubs. This is intended for students to interact and reach out to the neighbouring community.
Scrabble on the Nile Tournament
This took place from 16th to 17th December 2017. 4 students represented the university, Nanyanzi Dianah who was ranked 5th, Musinguzi Obadiah (8th), Tumwijukye Shaban (10th) and Nagasha Elizabeth (11th) out of 100 participants.
Eastern Region Rugby League
The university registered for this league and 5 clubs participated. The team emerged 5th because they did not participate in all the scheduled games. The sports administration is working on appointing a coach to train the team as the students seem to be so much interested in the game.
