Course Unit Description
This course explores the influence of society on Education It analyses the schooling context of sociology as a science, culture, social relations social changes and structure. The course introduces teachers’ trainees to the knowledge and understanding of the field of sociology a and how it relates to the Education Issues.
Course objectives
By the end of the course, the student is expected to be able to
- Acquire social knowledge useful in solving students’ social problems
- Understands the society and the environment in which they operate so as to bring about social development.
- Describe the field of Sociology and explain how it relates to the field of Education
- Identify the role of Education in socialising people and explain how education is reflected society.
- Understand the role of a teacher in the school organisation and how that relates to the other members in the school community.
- Describe and explain deviant behaviour as it relates to learners in school in order to help them learn and become useful members in the society.
